Nick Wayne will make his AEW in-ring debut against Swerve Strickland on “Dynamite” next week. Wayne, who will turn 18 on Monday, just finished high school. Despite being in school, Wayne has already had a successful wrestling career, having shared the ring with Strickland, Will Ospreay, Wheeler Yuta, Bandido, Konosuke Takeshita, El Hijo del Vikingo, and many too many more to name.

The bout for the July 12 “Dynamite” has been long anticipated because it is the first AEW show after Wayne turns 18. Wayne was signed to AEW in early 2022 when he was only 16 years old. Darby Allin, according to AEW CEO Tony Khan, brought the young sensation to his attention. Notably, Allin was trained by Nick’s father, the late Buddy Wayne.

Wayne’s debut will confirm him as yet another young star in AEW, but he won’t be the company’s only remarkable young wrestler. Tony Schiavone revealed in April that AEW had signed 18-year-old Billie Starkz. She has been displayed against Jade Cargill and Athena in a quarterfinal battle in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament since signing.

Nick Wayne spoke on his match with Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay faced Nick Wayne in the ring earlier this year at GCW’s “I Never Liked You.” On the All Real Wrestling Podcast, Wayne discussed the match and its aftermath with Eric Novak of Wrestling Republic.

“So I’d never spoken, or met, or seen Will Ospreay until that day. But I can say, and this is an absolute fact, me and Ospreay never rehearsed anything that happened. We never practiced nothing, we never did nothing,” he said, “We meshed very well in the ring together. Nothing was really […] rehearsed I would say or practiced. We never touched the ring before the show.”

Wayne admitted to being worried about the match ahead of time. He mentioned his classmates seeing his anxiousness backstage, adding, “People would come up to me and be like ‘dude why are you so nervous?’ and I was like ‘dude this is my dream match, wrestling Will Ospreay. This is crazy.” H/T – WrestlingInc.
