Just four days after the Double or Nothing pay-per-view, AEW celebrated its third birthday on TBS with the go-home episode of AEW Dynamite. The Steel Cage was already around the ring for the bout between Wardlow and Shawn Spears on the AEW Dynamite edition of May 25, with MJF acting as a special referee. Spears opened the Steel Cage bout by assaulting Wardlow while he was still in shackles. MJF soon stepped in and assaulted Wardlow, telling him that if he touched MJF, he would forfeit the AEW Double or Nothing bout against him.

The champions FTR and Roppongi Vice battled for the ROH Tag Team Championship in this show (Rocky Romero & Trent Beretta). After a lot of activity, the match finished in a no-contest. Meanwhile, Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston competed against Private Party on the programme, and Moxley and Kingston won the match via pinfall. Meanwhile, legendary wrestler CM Punk came face to face with Hangman Pade on AEW Dynamite.

Wardlow vs. Shawn Spears (MJF as Guest Referee) in a Steel Cage Match

Wardlow secured his long-awaited bout against MJF at Double or Nothing on Wednesday night, defeating Shawn Spears despite clear favouritism from the special referee. The audience in Las Vegas was overwhelmingly into him when he manhandled Spears, snapped a set of shackles after his former charge spit in his face, and knocked The Chairman out with the Powerbomb Symphony. Now Wardlow has a chance to give a beatdown and take the rivalry to new heights with MJF.

Winner: Wardlow

Hangman Page, the AEW world champion, was up against CM Punk, the maestro of mind games, on Wednesday night. Punk said he was unaware of Page’s rage and that he had nothing but respect for the world champion. When Page landed a right hand that dropped Punk to the mat, the experienced contender smiled, as though Hangman had played just into his grand plan. Punk is setting Page up playing his mind games and becoming fan-favourite.

Private Party vs. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

The Jericho Appreciation Society will face The Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz. Moxley and Kingston restored their alliance at Double or Nothing on Sunday night, but on Wednesday night, they faced the Andrade Family Office’s Private Party. Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy fought valiantly, but the persistence and savagery of Moxley and Kingston proved too much, and the babyfaces won. Following the bout, Chris Jericho and his buddies attacked the ring from the commentary booth, only to be met with a counter-offensive by Santana, Ortiz, and Bryan Danielson.

Winner: Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

FTR vs. Roppongi Vice in ROH tag team championship match

Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero of Roppongi Vice have already battled for the Ring of Honor tag team titles three times before Wednesday’s bout with FTR, and they were almost likely hoping for a fourth time lucky. When United Empire of New Japan Pro-Wrestling entered the ring to draw a No Contest, the bout came to a disappointing end. To put an exclamation point on the attack, they left all four contestants prostrate and drove Beretta through a table.

Winner: No Contest

Jungle Boy vs. Swerve Strickland vs. Ricky Starks

Jurassic Express will defend their AEW World Tag Team Championships against Team Taz’s “Absolute” Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs, as well as Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee. Strickland, Starks, and Jungle Boy competed in a Three-Way Dance on Wednesday as a warm-up for the high-stakes bout. Strickland gained significant momentum for himself and Lee with a hallmark win, putting Starks away with the Swerve Stomp, ahead of the major title opportunity.

Winner: Swerve Strickland

Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Semifinal: Toni Storm vs. Britt Baker

As she made her way to the ring, Dr. Britt Baker waved off Rebel and Jamie Hayter, determined to prove she could defeat Toni Storm on her own and earn a spot in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament finals. Storm dominated early on until Baker drove her into the ring post just before the break to change the tide in her favour. The back-and-forth bout ended with Hayter making her presence felt and creating the diversion that allowed Baker to capture the win with a grab of rope for more leverage after Baker rocked Storm with a devastating superkick that seemed to shatter her opponent’s nose.

Winner: Britt Baker

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Semifinal: Samoa Joe vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Fans expected a violent battle between Ring of Honor Television champion Samoa Joe and Kyle O’Reilly, and the two renowned fighters delivered. They fought for the chance to face Adam Cole in the finals of the renowned Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament, unloading brutal blows and excruciating submissions on each other. Joe absorbed all O’Reilly threw at him in the end, trapping him in the Coquina Clutch for the submission victory.

Winner: Samoa Joe
