A recent WWE segment starring Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman has prompted commentary from one AEW wrestler. After winning the men’s Royal Rumble match last month, Rhodes was guaranteed a spot in the WrestleMania 39 Undisputed WWE Universal Championship contest. Heyman and Rhodes had an in-ring segment on “Raw” on February 6 when they talked about Dusty Rhodes, “The American Dream,” in their memories. Roman Reigns is the son Dusty wishes he had, according to Heyman, who went personal. The Team Extreme legend offered his opinion of the promo while speaking on “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy.”

‘It was very well done’

“I thought it was very well done,” Hardy said. “I love how it blurred the line between reality and fiction. It was done very, very good. They took a different approach than I would guess most people would expect them to take, which I thought was a good thing. I thought both of their executions were masterful.” Hardy remarked that while Heyman is usually fantastic, Rhodes has developed into a unique performer. Rhodes “killed it,” according to Hardy, in the segment. He also commended one of the choices WWE made that evening.

Matt happy with Rhodes return to WWE

In the most recent episode of his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt Hardy offered his opinion on Cody giving up the EVP title in AEW and going back to WWE. “I got to spend a lot of time with Cody whenever we did the pandemic, we were in Jacksonville for 18 months. We got to know everybody pretty well, because we were there for extended amounts of time, especially doing Dark tapings till 2 AM 3 AM in the mornings at times. So it was cool, man.”

“I thought Cody killed it when he first came to WWE. I think him leaving AEW and going to WWE, the first major jump from AEW to WWE, you know, I think it’s good for business. And I think it’s good for interest, I think it’s good for wrestling fans. I think it’s just good for the entire wrestling business in general.”

Reigns versus Zayn

Hardy approves of WWE’s decision to have Reigns vs. Zayn at the February 18 Elimination Chamber event. In Hardy’s opinion, the match increases the suspense around Rhodes’ opponent at WrestleMania. Many people are curious as to what part Jey Uso might play in the contest. “Sami [Zayn] wasn’t present, and Roman wasn’t there, so I feel like that made it much easier to focus on the correct things.”

“It was a great start of the newest chapter.” He continued, “It’s been a great story. I love what they’ve done. I dig Roman and the Usos and The Bloodline so much. And Sami was such a good injection into it and he has just played his part to perfection, you know? And he really has become a bigger star as time has gone on doing this, and his reaction to finally flipping the switch and turning on Roman was fantastic.”
