The return of Dakota Kai to the WWE arena during SummerSlam 2023 (5 August) was a moment celebrated by fans, but her journey back to in-ring action is marked by caution. While her appearance hinted at a triumphant comeback, reports from PWInsider Elite reveal that the Damage CTRL member is still awaiting medical clearance to step back into the ring.

Kai’s absence from the wrestling scene has been attributed to an injury that occurred a few months ago. The New Zealand-born wrestler suffered a torn ACL during her participation in the 17 May episode of SmackDown. In that episode, she teamed up with Bayley to challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. The injury sidelined her and posed a significant obstacle on her path to returning to active competition.

Initially, WWE’s plans for Kai post-SummerSlam were different. However, circumstances have evolved. It’s now been reported that Dakota Kai will be accompanying the WWE crew for every SmackDown TV taping. This signifies a shift from the original plan, indicating WWE’s commitment to integrating her back into the fold on a consistent basis.

Dakota Kai is currently aligned with Bayley and Iyo Sky in Damage CTRL

Dakota Kai’s return was further punctuated by a heartening reunion with her Damage CTRL stablemates. At SummerSlam, she joined Bayley in celebrating IYO SKY’s capturing of the WWE Women’s Championship over Bianca Belair. This marked the trio’s first appearance together since Dakota’s injury in May. Their camaraderie was on display not only during their triumphant moment but also at the post-show media scrum.

Kai’s journey within WWE has been characterized by dedication and resilience. Since signing in December 2016, she carved out an impactful presence in NXT before making her way to the main roster. Her debut as part of Damage CTRL’s formation angle at SummerSlam 2022 marked a new phase in her career. Despite the injury setback, her return this year signals her determination to continue leaving her mark on the WWE landscape.

As Dakota Kai navigates her recovery and prepares for her eventual return to the squared circle, fans remain eager to witness her comeback in full force. Her journey is a testament to the resilience that defines the world of professional wrestling, where setbacks are often overcome with determination and passion.
