Brayelin Martinez is a Dominican Republic athlete. She is a 24-year-old outside hitter who has already contributed to three major league championships and helped the Caribbean region earn a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. After helping the Dominican Republic win the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship, the Santo Domingo native was long regarded as a potential star for the national team. By that time, she had already joined the Dominican Republic national team, with whom she won the NORCECA Pan-American Cup gold medals in 2014 and 2016.

Martinez was also a member of the team that took home silver and bronze at the FIVB Volleyball U23 World Championships in 2013 and 2015. Given that she comes from a sporting family—her younger sister Jineiry is an international volleyball player—and that her brother Brayan plays professional basketball, it didn’t surprise volleyball fans in her country. She spent a season in Bolzano, then in 2017 the Italian team Unet Yamamay Busto Arsizio contacted her. She spent a season with them, winning silver in the 2017 European CEV Cup, before joining Serie A rivals Pomi Casalmaggiore for the 2017–18 campaign.

Before returning to Europe and signing with Turkish team Aydin Büyükşehir Belediyespor in August 2018, Martinez made a brief trip back home to assist Caribenas in winning the Dominican championship. Previously, she played for Praia Club in Brazil for the previous two seasons. The 201cm-tall player has spent the last two seasons solidly establishing herself as one of volleyball’s top players. Her assistance in getting the Dominican Republic to Tokyo 2020 after they missed out at the Tokyo Volleyball Qualification tournament after placing second in their pool to Brazil is arguably her most notable accomplishment.

However, they were flawless against Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico in the NORCECA Continental tournament. Martinez was in top form and scored 15 points in the match-deciding 3-0 victory over Puerto Rico (25-20, 25-18, 25-15). Following appearances in Athens (2004) and London (2012) meant Marcos Kwiek’s team qualified for their third Olympic Games.

Due to her incredible performance, Brayelin Martinez has attracted the interest of some incredible sponsors, including Dentil, Nivea, a German skin and body care company, and Isacare.
