Since it started in February 2022, the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) has changed volleyball in India. It’s like the start of a new journey for the sport. Indian players can now learn by playing with and watching some of the top volleyball stars from around the world. The PVL has made more people notice volleyball and it’s now enjoyed by a lot more fans everywhere.

This means players get to show what they can do on a big stage, coming from all kinds of places and backgrounds. It’s especially good for younger players who didn’t have many chances to play professionally before., they’re learning a lot by working with coaches from other countries and playing with and against players from around the world.

The league has also made volleyball a job that can pay the bills, which wasn’t so easy to think about just a year back. Players are getting better training, better places to play, and more help which is making them play better both in the league and for India. Talking about what the PVL has done for him, L.M. Manoj shared his story.

He said that it’s changed his life and the lives of his family in Karnataka. Before, people didn’t know who he was, but now he’s got the nickname “Mountain Manoj” and is feeling pretty famous. The league also helped him and his family with money when they needed it, like paying off loans and buying things like sports shoes. They couldn’t afford training before, but now he’s got some money to help with that.

Level of Coaches and training in Prime Volleyball League

Manoj also talked about how training with coaches and experts from other places has made him and his teammates better players. They’re organized and give clear feedback, and that has helped all of them when they play for India. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, this was clear. India, including the ‘Mountain Manoj’, was in a tough group but they still played bravely.

Even though they lost to Japan, they surprised everyone by beating Korea, which was a big deal. Mohan Ukkrapandian, who has played volleyball for a long time and in many Asian Games, said the PVL is an amazing experience. Playing with international players and learning from foreign coaches has made them better.

When they played at the Asian Games after the PVL, they felt ready and weren’t scared because they’d been through tough matches in the league. So, you see, the PVL is helping Indian volleyball players in many ways, on and off the court. It’s giving them chances, new skills, and a lot of confidence.

India representation through Prime Volleyball League

Muthusamy Appavu talked about how playing in the Pro Volleyball League (PVL) has helped him and his teammates represent India much better at events like the Asian Games. He mentioned that he’s been with the Indian team since the 2017-2018 season and only felt like a real pro after the PVL began.

Appavu believes that looking at how India’s volleyball game has evolved since the PVL started is important. He recalled victories against South Korea and Chinese Taipei and a tough match against China during the quarterfinals of the Asian Championship where they played five sets. Appavu pointed out that the level of volleyball has changed.

With players gaining more confidence and showing improved performance. He credits the PVL for these improvements, highlighting top-notch facilities and the increased number of games that test their skills. Lastly, he expressed optimism that if they continue playing at this high level, making it into Asia’s top five teams soon is within reach.
