The Fédération International of Volleyball (FIVB), the world’s governing body of volleyball, will host the 18th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship in 2023. The tournament is contested every two years by women’s national teams under the age of 19 from member associations. It will take place from August 1 to August 11, 2023, in Croatia and Hungary. The FIVB decided in March 2022 to change the age group of the girls’ tournament from U18 to U19 in order to link it with the Boys’ U19 World tournament, so this will be the first edition with under-19 national teams. Players must have been born on or after January 1, 2005.
For the final competition, a total of 20 national teams were supposed to be eligible. To “facilitate the co-hosting,” the FIVB did confirm an increase in the number of participating teams from 20 to 24 in January 2023. Along with Croatia and Hungary, who qualified automatically as the hosts, 19 other teams qualified in five different continental tournaments, all of which had to be finished by the latest date of December 31, 2022. The remaining 3 teams competed based on the teams that had not yet qualified and the Girls’ U19 FIVB World Ranking (excluding teams from the CEV). For this stage of the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship 2023, which runs from Tuesday through Sunday with a rest day planned for Friday, teams have been divided into four different groups. Once the group stage is through, the tournament will switch to a knockout format.
