Daniel Cormier has spoken out about Khabib Nurmagomedov considering a return from retirement to fight Charles Oliveira. After defeating Justin Gaethje in October 2020, ‘The Eagle’ announced his retirement. Despite his retirement, the UFC made every effort to get him back into the ring. The efforts, however, all failed, and Nurmagomedov relinquished the lightweight championship in 2021. We haven’t seen Khabib in action ever since. But he started his own organization, Eagle F.C, to promote MMA fights and fighters.
Despite this, many admirers are still hoping for his comeback. Nurmagomedov has received little attention in recent battles. Daniel Cormier, on the other hand, has a notion of what might be able to achieve it. On the DC & RC podcast, the former dual-weight champion explored a probable return. Daniel Cormier speculated that Khabib Nurmagomedov may comeback under the appropriate circumstances. The ideal situation would be for Charles Oliveira to fight his friend Islam Makhachev for the UFC lightweight championship. The two contenders are expected to face off later this year.

Daniel Cormier thinks of Khabib very highly as he highly awaits to see Khabib back in the octagon. Daniel Cormier on the podcast Dc & RC said, “When you lose a dominant champion like Khabib Nurmagomedov, sure he didn’t all the title defenses. But, when a guy leaves the weight, and leaves the belt behind, and then a guy comes behind like Charles Oliveira, and he starts to dominate the class like he has, you start to question. Man, it would nice to see him fight Khabib right? Many people have said that, it would be nice to know.”
Daniel Cormier continued, “What better way to draw him back in, then to have Oliveira beat his friend, training partner? It’s another way to try and draw him in because Dana has thrown so much money at Khabib to try and get him back and that hasn’t been enough. But what if, defending his friend’s honor is enough if Islam doesn’t get the job done? I just think there’s a lot of reasons to make this [Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev] fight.”

He finished the victory by putting his American opponent “to sleep” and ending the fight with a triangle choke. This was Khabib’s final match, and it marked the end of his career (29-0-0). Khabib ruled the lightweight class, and no one could dethrone him until he decided to relinquish it and quit. His return is anticipated, but most likely he will simply wait to see whether the Eagle returns.
