Despite reports that Nick Diaz would try to return to the Octagon before the end of 2022, current UFC commentator and former two-division champion Daniel Cormier believes the Stockton native has seen his final fight. Nick, who will turn 39 in August, had an uncomplicated return to the Octagon at UFC 266 after a nearly seven-year absence.

Diaz was scheduled to fight longtime opponent Robbie Lawler, however, Diaz was defeated through third-round TKO. Diaz appeared better in training before the fight than he did in the bout itself, in retrospect.

Regardless of the setback, Diaz remains one of the most well-known names in MMA today. He’s done enough in the sport to merit another trip to the Octagon, especially if fight fans would pay to witness it.

But, after seeming to be a shadow of his former self (understandable given the extended layoff), does Diaz have any reason to fight again?

Cormier certainly does not believe so. After viewing Diaz’s performance against Lawler in September, “DC” doubts we’ll ever see the Stockton warrior again. He might be incorrect, but Cormier makes a good argument about Diaz’s fighting prospects.

In the recent episode of DC & RC Daniel Cormier said, “My last visual of Nick Diaz, I don’t feel like we’re gonna really see him again in the Octagon. The pictures he looked shredded, inside the octagon he looked like a different man and it didn’t seem like he wanted to be in there.”

Nick Diaz and his future

It’s unclear what will happen to Diaz at this point. It took him over seven years to return to the Octagon, so how long it will take him to fight again is anyone’s estimate. If he’s seeking a fast payday, that’s a different situation, but if he wants to test himself competitively, the promoter may have to take some time to find the right opponent.

Nick Diaz is one of the stars in UFC and a fight with him probably would help UFC earn enough PPV sales. So, it would be something to look at whether Nick Diaz will once again get back in the octagon or not.
