Did Islam Makachev miss the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov in a corner at UFC 284? Definitely yes, based on what the lightweight champion said at the press conference. In a recent tweet released by the UFC, the Dagestan champion is seen lovingly timing an “eagle” after his victory. During a press conference at UFC 284, the lightweight champion revealed what Nurmagomedov told him during the call. Apparently “Eagle” was somewhat critical of Makhachev’s performance. “He [Habib Nurmagomedov] was very nervous and said, ‘Why are you doing this…’ [and I thought] Hey, if you were here [at the event], would you You could have been in my corner’ to do [what Khabib suggested], but you didn’t come. “In early January, Nurmagomedov left MMA for good, including his coaching role. Prior to that, ‘The Eagle’ had been a constant presence in Makhachev’s corner during his fights.

Khabib meticulously talking his friend through a kimura attempt against Dan Hooker is a moment few MMA fans can forget. Expressing his happiness at Makhachev’s win over the Australian champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov said: “Simply the best Proved it in a hard, competitive fight against the best active fighter on the planet…Just have a flashback on your memory of who topped the best regardless of weight category from Eurasia in the history of MMA, there were only a couple of fighters and Islam was already on that list. You are already history Brother.”During the post-fight press conference at UFC 284 lightweight champion Islam Makahchev stated that he would welcome a rematch with former champion Charles Oliveira in the future.

A potential title eliminator between ‘Do Bronx’ and Beneil Dariush is rumored to be in the works by the UFC and as Makahchev sees it, he’ll happily fight Oliveira if the UFC orders the bout after the Brazilian defeats Dariush: “Charles has [a] good fight [coming up]. I don’t know if it has been announced. If he beats Benir, even if the UFC didn’t do the fight, I would be ready.”

“De Bronx” is currently the #1 lightweight. A win over an Iranian-American fighter would probably put him next in line for a title shot.

Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in May 2021 to claim the vacant 155-pound championship. Prior to his matchup with Gaethje at UFC 274, Do Bronx was forced to forfeit the belt for under-weighing. By far, Makhachev’s victory is the biggest in his professional career. His career record now stands at 23-1.

Islam Makhachev may be the most terrifying fighter in the lightweight division in the UFC currently. Throughout his ascent through the ranks, Makhachev has been a powerful force. He has dominated his opponents with excellent wrestling and relentless pressure.
