Fresh off his bantamweight championship win with a second-round TKO of Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292. Sean O’Malley is sending a clear message to Marlon “Chito” Vera about securing a rematch. O’Malley’s only career loss came at the hands of Vera in August 2020 at UFC 252 and with both fighters coming off victories at UFC 292 a rematch seems likely. However, O’Malley is cautioning Vera to approach the situation with respect or the rematch may not happen.

Vera’s unanimous decision win against Pedro Munhoz earlier in the night has only fueled speculation about a potential rematch with O’Malley. Given that higher-ranked contenders like Merab Dvalishvili and Corey Sandhagen are currently sidelined with injuries. The timing seems right for the two fighters to run it back.

However, O’Malley asserts that the decision ultimately lies with him. He expressed his dissatisfaction with Vera’s demeanor in the aftermath of UFC 292. O’Malley discussed the situation on the “TimboSugarShow” podcast, stating that if Vera’s attitude doesn’t change, he won’t hesitate to choose an alternative path for his next fight.

In an assertive tone, O’Malley said, “You need to settle down, or I’ll pick Henry Cejudo. And don’t think that I don’t have the power to pick who I want to fight right now. So you better go on Twitter, and say, ‘Daddy, will you fight me?’ And I’ll think about it.

Despite sustaining multiple injuries in the lead-up to his victory over Sterling. O’Malley expressed his desire to return to the octagon for UFC 296 on December 16. He mentioned that he would be ready to compete again within four months given the right circumstances. However, O’Malley made it clear that Vera’s behavior doesn’t align with his expectations. He’s prepared to adjust his plans accordingly.

“You need to settle down acting like you call the shots right now,” O’Malley emphasized. “I’ll go box Gervonta Davis. I’ll fight Henry. I’ll wait for Cory. You need to chill out with your ugly a** outfits.”

O’Malley’s comments highlight the importance of sportsmanship and mutual respect in the world of mixed martial arts. While fighters often engage in trash talk and promote their fights maintaining a level of professionalism is crucial in securing future opportunities.

As fans await further developments in the potential rematch between O’Malley and Vera. O’Malley’s stance on the matter showcases his assertiveness and willingness to assert control over his career choices. Whether the rematch materializes depends not only on the UFC’s matchmaking decisions but also on Vera’s response to O’Malley’s cautionary message.
