Former three-time Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler. He remains optimistic about a potential matchup with former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor. Despite recent suggestions of a shift in focus. While McGregor initially expressed interest in a fight with Chandler after their roles as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31. He has since turned his attention to newly crowned BMF title winner Justin Gaethje.

Chandler joined the UFC roster in 2020. He has been sidelined since his third-round rear-naked choke loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November of last year. Despite this setback, Chandler believes that a fight with McGregor still makes perfect sense and is too enticing to pass up.

Speaking about the potential matchup, Chandler stated, “The fight makes too much sense for it not to happen. I’m still the most entertaining guy on the doggone roster. Everyone wants to see the greatest comeback in combat sports history, so I think it’s going to be me and Conor. That’s it.

The anticipation surrounding a potential clash between Chandler and McGregor has garnered significant attention within the MMA community. Both fighters possess dynamic styles and a knack for delivering thrilling performances making a matchup between them an intriguing prospect.

McGregor, on the other hand, has been focused on his own journey back to the Octagon following a devastating leg injury that occurred during his bout with Poirier in July 2021. Despite speculation and criticism from some quarters. McGregor’s manager has emphasized his commitment to making a proper comeback and following the necessary protocols set by anti-doping agency USADA.

The Irish fighter’s most recent victory came in January 2020. When he returned to the welterweight division and stopped Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds. However, McGregor has since experienced a two-fight losing streak suffering defeats to Poirier in their rematch at lightweight.

The potential clash between Chandler and McGregor remains an intriguing storyline. While McGregor’s recent focus on Justin Gaethje has diverted attention. Chandler’s confidence in the matchup’s appeal suggests that fight fans may still witness the two dynamic lightweights square off inside the Octagon.
