UFC President Dana White recently revealed that the promotion is currently working on setting up a highly anticipated welterweight clash between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. The matchup is expected to serve as the co-headliner for UFC 295. It is scheduled to take place on November 11 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. The main event of the evening will feature a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Leon Edwards is the current welterweight champion. He has been eagerly seeking a fight for some time now. Initially, there were talks of him fighting in October in Abu Dhabi. However, after the UFC announced matchups between Makhachev and Oliveira, and Chimaev and Costa, the plan shifted towards Edwards facing Covington at UFC 295.

Edwards has been in impressive form with a record of 21 wins, 3 losses, and one no Contest. He successfully defended his welterweight title for the first time in March at a fight in London against Kamaru Usman. When he secured a majority decision victory. Prior to that, he earned the title by defeating Usman with a spectacular fifth-round head-kick knockout.

Edwards has showcased his skills and resilience in a 10-fight unbeaten streak. He claimed victories over top contenders like Nate Diaz, Rafael dos Anjos, Vicente Luque, and Gunnar Nelson, with a No Contest against Belal Muhammad due to an accidental eye poke.

Colby Covington holds a record of 17 wins and 3 losses. Covington’s last fight was in March 2022, where he secured a decision victory against Jorge Masvidal. This win was crucial for him as it brought him back into the win column after losing a decision to Kamaru Usman in the welterweight title fight.

In his last four fights, Covington has experienced mixed results. With two wins and two losses. Besides Masvidal, he secured a TKO victory over Tyron Woodley but suffered a TKO loss to Usman in the welterweight title bout. Throughout his career, Covington has earned the prestigious title of UFC’s former interim welterweight champion and has notable victories over Rafael dos Anjos, Robbie Lawler, and Demian Maia, among other top contenders.
