It has been more than three years since former undisputed lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last graced the Octagon and during this time, fans and pundits alike have persistently urged the Russian fighter to consider a comeback. However, Nurmagomedov retired with a pristine record of 29-0. He has consistently maintained his decision to step away from the sport and has recently reiterated his stance once more.

The Dagestani fighter retired from mixed martial arts competition following a triumphant submission win over Justin Gaethje in 2020. A victory that not only unified the lightweight division titles but also held deep personal significance. Nurmagomedov revealed that he had promised his mother he would retire after the sad passing of his father and head coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Despite consistent calls from fans, UFC President Dana White, and other figures within the organization. Nurmagomedov has remained steadfast in his decision to remain retired. He has made it clear that he has no desire to return to the world of combat sports and is content with his current pursuits in coaching and training.

In a recent interview with David Patrick-Bet, Nurmagomedov drew parallels between his situation and that of NBA legend Michael Jordan’s final tenure with the Chicago Bulls. He emphasized that he is not seeking a comeback like Jordan’s and referenced the acclaimed documentary “The Last Dance,” which chronicled Jordan’s last championship-winning season with the Bulls.

Regarding a potential return to MMA, Nurmagomedov stated, “Because of my mother, I don’t think so. About a comeback, I am not sure – it doesn’t make sense to me. People want drama, people want the movie to keep continuing. Right now, I am full.

Nurmagomedov’s decision to retire was punctuated by his successful title defenses against the likes of Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Gaethje. His reign as the undisputed lightweight champion showcased his dominant grappling skills and unwavering determination inside the Octagon. While fans undoubtedly miss his performances, Nurmagomedov’s commitment to his personal values and family promises has made him an even more respected figure in the MMA community.

The potential for a Khabib Nurmagomedov comeback has been the subject of numerous rumors and discussions within the MMA sphere. However, his recent statements leave little room for doubt about his intentions.
