UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman recently spoke out about his upcoming plans and potential opponents. Shedding light on the situation with Jorge Masvidal, Stephen Thompson, and Belal Muhammad. Usman addressed the controversy surrounding Masvidal’s missed weight and discussed why a fight with Thompson or Muhammad makes the most sense for his next title defense.

At UFC 292, Kamaru Usman was set to defend his welterweight title against the dangerous striker Jorge Masvidal. However, things took an unexpected turn during the weigh-ins when Masvidal failed to make the required weight limit. Leaving fans disappointed and questioning his dedication to the fight.

Usman expressed his disappointment over the situation clarifying that it was not his fault that the bout did not take place as planned. Both fighters had signed the contract and Usman expected Masvidal to honor the agreement by making the stipulated weight. Instead, Masvidal failed to meet the requirement leading to the fight’s cancellation.

The Nigerian Nightmare emphasized that Thompson did his part by coming in on weight and preparing for the fight. He defended Thompson’s decision to demand Masvidal to make weight stating that it was the right thing to do. Usman firmly believes that the blame for the missed opportunity lies solely with Masvidal for not fulfilling his contractual obligations.

Usman revealed two names that are currently piquing his interest as potential opponents, Stephen Thompson and Belal Muhammad. Both fighters present intriguing challenges and are on impressive winning streaks making them strong contenders for a title shot.

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is known for his elusive striking and difficult-to-crack style. He has long been considered one of the top contenders in the welterweight division. Despite the disappointment of the canceled Masvidal fight. Thompson remains a viable option for Usman’s next title defense.

Belal Muhammad is riding high on a 10-fight unbeaten streak showcasing his remarkable skill set in his recent win over Gilbert Burns. Usman recognizes Muhammad’s position as he is next in line for a title shot. However, Usman understands that Muhammad may be hesitant to risk his title hopes by taking another fight before getting a shot at the belt.

Usman asserted that both Thompson and Muhammad make sense as potential opponents given the current welterweight roster. While other fighters might be vying for the title shot these two have proven themselves through their performances inside the Octagon.
