Sean O’Malley will remain in the UFC for the time being. Dana, the white contender who started in his series bantamweight contender, has signed a new eight-fight contract extension with the UFC. UFC President Dana White announced the news on Saturday, and O’Malley also confirmed his deal via his podcast. “He’s proud to have signed such an amicable deal,” said O’Malley. “I have numbers that I am very happy with. I think the manager I had didn’t step in there and get what I got. It also helps with the relationship that has been built with the UFC. I feel I deserve this deal. I feel I deserve what I am being paid for. ” Tying O’Malley to a long-term deal makes a lot of sense for the UFC. Especially since the 28-year-old fighter is nearing a title shot after defeating former bantamweight champion Petr Jan last October.

O’Malley has quickly become one of the UFC’s most marketable stars, steadily growing his 8-1 record in his 10 fights with the 135-pound organization. He is currently on a five-fight undefeated streak, with his only loss in the UFC coming in 2020 by TKO to Marlon “Chito” Vera. All signs now point to O’Malley getting a title shot in his next fight, but it all depends on when reigning UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling returns to action. Sterling is targeting a May match against Henry Cejudo. That means O’Malley could be out at least in the first half of 2023, waiting for his own shot at becoming a champion. Either way, O’Malley’s future is set with his new UFC contract while he waits for his next assignment.

“The next time I fight [Aljamain Sterling], I don’t get any pay-per-view points,” O’Malley said. “That’s what we talked about in the negotiations and we were going to get it. You know, it’s a pay-per-viewpoint, not a champion. It didn’t fly.”

“But I’m going to say I re-signed with the UFC,” he continued. “thank you, thank you, thank you. I got a very friendly contract that I am proud of. Imran (Jawaid of Sanabour) and I went in there and negotiated. You said this, I provided it. I asked it, they said no, they said yes. I said, “Hmmm.” And I really don’t think the manager I had was able to go there and get what I got. ”

“It also helps with the relationship that I have built with the UFC. I’m here. And I think the UFC has no problem paying people what they deserve. And I feel like I’m in a good position in the UFC and I’m getting paid for it. I am very satisfied with the way the negotiations proceeded.”
