In a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 291, Dustin Poirier sought redemption against Justin Gaethje and he got exactly that with a stunning second-round knockout. Following the victory, the focus shifted to Conor McGregor who has been vocal about wanting a trilogy fight with Poirier. However, ‘The Diamond’ has made it clear that above all else McGregor must pass a drug test before stepping into the octagon again.

The rivalry between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor has been one of the most talked-about storylines in recent MMA history. The two fighters have clashed on three occasions with Poirier currently holding a 2-1 lead in their series. After their last encounter, which ended in a TKO win for Poirier both fighters have been looking for a decisive showdown to settle the score.

However, Poirier is not willing to engage in any discussions of a rematch until McGregor complies with the standard drug testing protocols. The Irishman is reportedly waiting to join the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) testing pool but ‘The Diamond’ remains adamant that no preferential treatment should be given to any fighter.

During an interview on The MMA Hour, Poirier voiced his concerns about McGregor’s situation, stating, “Dude, he needs to pass a drug test. That’s what he needs to do.” Poirier emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the sport by adhering to the anti-doping regulations set in place by USADA.

Poirier further expressed his reservations about changing the rules for any individual fighter, especially for the sake of selling pay-per-views. The former interim lightweight champion stressed that such actions would undermine the integrity of the sport and the efforts made to create a fair and level playing field for all competitors.

While Poirier acknowledges that the authorities have the final say in these matters, he is committed to advocating for clean and fair competition in MMA. He firmly believes that strict adherence to anti-doping policies is crucial in maintaining the credibility of the sport and ensuring the safety and well-being of the fighters.

The rivalry between Poirier and McGregor has been fueled by intense emotions and heated exchanges in the past, but Poirier is urging for a more rational and ethical approach to any potential rematch. For him, passing a drug test is an essential step in validating a fighter’s readiness to compete at the highest level.
