As the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) prepares to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with Noche UFC on September 16, 2023. Flyweight champion Alexa Grasso is gearing up for her first career title defense. The highly anticipated main event of the Las Vegas “Fight Night” will see Grasso take on the legendary Valentina Shevchenko for the second time with both fighters looking to make their mark on the historic occasion.

Grassois 29 and she is the sole remaining Mexican UFC champion after the country achieved three title wins earlier in the year. Her victory against Shevchenko at UFC 285 marked a significant upset as Grasso secured a fourth-round face crank submission to claim the women’s flyweight title. While Grasso’s finishing rate in her UFC career has been relatively modest. She exudes confidence in her ability to replicate her previous success against the “Bullet.”

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Grasso emphasized her determination to finish the fight regardless of where it may go. She recounted her close encounter with a knockout in the first round of their previous bout and expressed her belief that the outcome will be no different this time around. Grasso is resolute in her intention to either submit Shevchenko or secure a knockout showcasing her unwavering self-assuredness.

Shevchenko is 35 and she suffered her first loss at 125 pounds against Grasso. It ended her previously undefeated record in the division. A former challenger for the bantamweight title. Shevchenko now finds herself in the role of challenger once more. This third rematch of her extensive career presents a unique challenge as she adjusts to the new dynamics. With previous multi-fight rivalries against Amanda Nunes and Liz Carmouche. Shevchenko’s experience will be put to the test once again.

Grasso finds the upcoming fight particularly intriguing and exciting due to the shift in roles for Shevchenko. She is eager to see how Shevchenko adapts to the challenger position after her long reign as a dominant champion.
