Juan Carlos Ferrero is a former world No. 1 tennis player and current tennis coach from Spain. He won the men’s singles title at the 2003 French Open and became the 21st player to hold the top ranking in September of that year, which he held for eight weeks. He finished second in the 2002 French Open and third in the 2003 US Open and won 16 ATP titles, including four Masters 1000 events. He was dubbed “Mosquito” because of his speed and slender physical build. Ferrero announced his retirement from professional tennis after the 2012 Valencia Open. He has since coached two-time Tour Finals champion and Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev, as well as US Open champion and world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

Despite being known as one of the best clay-court players during his prime, Ferrero distinguished himself as an all-court and all-round player due to his consistent performance on hard- and grass-court tournaments. During an interview, he stated that he preferred playing on hard courts. Due to his aggressive style of play, tennis experts agreed that Ferrero’s clay-court game translated well to the hard court. He also had one of the best forehands in the game and was extremely fast on the court. On the court, he was sponsored by Nike, Sergio Tacchini, and Lotto Sport Italia. He signed an endorsement deal with Joma in 2010. He wears Lacoste clothing (since 2012), Asics shoes, and Prince Sports racquets.

Ferrero, nicknamed Juanki, began playing tennis at the age of seven with his father, Eduardo Ferrero Micó (1943-2022), who frequently travelled with him. He has two sisters, Ana and Laura, and he admires former No. 1 Jim Courier’s play. Ferrero was inspired by his mother, Rosario, who died of cancer when he was 16 years old in 1996. In July 2007, he purchased an old cottage in Bocairent, south of Valencia, and converted it into the “Hotel Ferrero,” which now has 12 luxury suites. He used to co-own the Valencia Open tennis tournament with fellow tennis player David Ferrer. Miguel Maeso was his fitness trainer, and he was coached by Antonio Martnez Cascales (since 1989) and Salvador Navarro (since May 2008).
