Serena Williams has been a celebrity for over two decades. Her love life has been the subject of much speculation, but she has found a reliable partner in Alexis Ohanian. Williams married him in 2017, just a few months after the birth of their daughter Olympia. Ohanian is no stranger to public scrutiny. The entrepreneur and investor is one of Reddit’s co-founders and has garnered a lot of attention over the years. Here’s a look at the illustrious career of the American.

Ohanian currently leads the venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, which he founded in 2020 but only began full-time operations in 2021. While he has a wealth of experience in the field, he promises that his latest venture will stand out from the crowd. In an interview with Forbes, Ohanian remarked that, despite his interest in other sectors such as marketing, developing new products is his first love.

I know people want to talk to me about marketing or community or other things, but building product is what I love. I’m motivated a lot by what I see as a changing tide in venture, and I think it’s become clear that venture is not immune from the software eating up every industry.” – Alexis Ohanian

Professional journey

Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband, graduated from the University of Virginia in 2005 with degrees in history and commerce. Together with his friend Steve Huffman, he offered the idea for a website to Y Combinator, a software start-up, which they passed on. The two were encouraged to come up with new ideas for potential funding. That’s how the two co-founded Reddit in 2005, with Aaron Swartz also listed as a co-founder. After leaving the company to pursue other opportunities, Ohanian returned in 2014 and remained until his departure in 2020.

Ohanian worked on a variety of different initiatives while heading Reddit. In 2007, he launched Breadpig, a company dedicated to manufacturing items with the majority of the proceeds benefiting charities. In 2011, he parted ways with the company. Ohanian founded Hipmunk in August 2010, after working on the concept for over a year. From June 2014 to February 2016, he was a Partner at Y Combinator. In 2011, he co-founded Initialized Capital with Garry Tan, a venture capital fund with which he remained affiliated until 2020.
