Seeded 25th Sebastian Baez has been a huge name for the last few years but the results have not done justice to his reputation at well recently. Despite his massive victory recently at the Cordoba Open, where he beat Coria in the final and on the way outside opponents such as Dellien, Barrios Vera, and Darderis, he has not made it out of the first round in the majority of the tournaments. Like at the Australian Open, where he lost to Kubler, at the Argentina Open to Lajovic, and also at the Maharashtra Open to Martinez. The same was the case at the recently played Bavarian International and the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he lost to Oscar Otte and Jack Draper respectively in the opening round itself.
Marcos Giron hasn’t been in great form recently and looks to start the year on a high. He hasn’t made it to the later stages of any of the major tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Medvedev in the Australian Open in the opening round and at the Dallas Open, he lost to Fritz in the quarter-finals. At the Delray Beach Open, he again made it to the quarters losing this time to Kecmanovic, and at the Mexican Open, he bowed out of the tournament right in the first round against Michael Mmoh. At the Adelaide International 1, he lost to Popyrin in the round of 16 stage, and at the recently played Bavarian International, he lost against van de Zandschulp in the quarters. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Borges in the first-round matchup by 2-6, 6-7.
