At the beginning of the Grand Slam, Sabalenka had said that she considered taking a break from the sport.
Aryna Sabalenka’s second round match at the 2022 US Open was anything but easy. Against Kaia Kanepi, the sixth seed went down in the first set and had to play out a long tie-break in the second but came out victorious. Sabalenka hit nine aces and recorded five out of nine break points to earn a 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory. At the beginning of the Grand Slam, Sabalenka had said that she considered taking a break from the sport. “I was actually thinking after Doha and Dubai that I’d better just stop, take a little pause and work on things a little bit more because I was all over the place and I couldn’t handle myself,” she admitted after the first-round victory against Catherine Harrison. “There were so many things going on.”
Clara Burel has had an outstanding US Open campaign so far. Firstly, she defeated a much higher-rated Misaki Doi in her final qualifying match to enter the main draw of the Grand Slam. She was then drawn against Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the first round but the Frenchwoman shocked the world to take a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Burel faced Belgian qualifier Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round and beat her 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Aryna Sabalenka and Clara Burel are scheduled to face one another in a third round match of the US Open 2022 on Saturday, September 3. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
