Andrey Rublev has not been in good form recently having lost four of the last five matches he has played. He will look to bounce back in style by picking up a win against his much-experienced opponent and building the confidence that he has been lacking. He lost against Kokkinakis in the Adelaide International 2 at the round of 16 stage. And at the Adelaide International 1, he got knocked out by Bautista Agut at the round of 32 stage. In the ATP World Tour Finals, he lost to Ruud in the semi-finals after winning against Medvedev and Tsitsipas in the group stage round.

Dominic Thiem has been not been consistent and his decent run of form has got his fans worried and he looks to start the year on a high after a disastrous Adelaide International 1 tournament. He lost to Kwon Soon-woo right in the qualifier stage and at the Vienna Open, he lost to Medvedev in the semis after a nice win against Tommy Paul in the first round. At the European Open, he lost to Korda in the semis after beating the likes of Hurkacz, Cerundolo, and Geerts on the way. At the Gijon Open, he faced Rublev in the semis where he lost leading to the end of his wonderful tournament.
