Roberto Carballes Baena is desperate to get back to his best form after having a woeful start to the new year and nothing seems to be going on his side. He will be motivated to go the distance at the ongoing Madrid Open having been knocked out early in the majority of the tournaments he has played in so far this year. At the Argentina Open and the Chile Open, he got knocked out in the round of 16 stage to Etcheverry and Hanfmann respectively. And at the Cordoba Open, the Australian Open, the Rio Open, and even the recent Indian Wells Masters, he bowed out of all the tournaments in the first round itself but at the Grand Prix Hassan II, he shocked the tennis world by lifting the trophy beating the likes of Alexandre Muller, Dan Evans, Griekspoor, Kuzmanov, and Cressy. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Goffin in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-4.

Seeded 13th Alexander Zverev hasn’t been in good touch lately after recovering from the injury he picked up at the French Open last year and still is searching for good form. He will be adamant to make a change in fortune and perform well at the Miami Open. He couldn’t make it past the second stage mark in most of his last tournaments: at the Australian Open, he lost to Mmoh, and at the Rotterdam Open, he lost to Griekspoor. At the Dubai Tennis Championships, he made it to the semis but eventually lost to Rublev, and at both the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Indian Wells Masters, he made it to the round of 16 stage losing to Medvedev on both occasions.
