Seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko made a strong start to the 2023 Adelaide International 1 after a comfortable victory over Karolina Pliskova on Tuesday. The Latvian won by a score of 6-1, 6-3 after registering one ace and converting five out of eight break points. She also recorded 67% and 75% on the first and second serves respectively. Ostapenko was involved in the WTA Finals at the end of the 2022 season in the doubles event where she reached the semi-finals.
Irina-Camellia Begu got the better of American tennis player Shelby Rogers in the first round in Adelaide after an exciting match that lasted three sets. The score at the end of the match was 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in Begu’s favour. The Romanian registered three aces and converted seven out of 10 break points.
