In his first game on home soil in Dallas, Frances Tiafoe suffered his first loss of the 2023 campaign, losing from a set up to the underdog but in-form Jeffrey John Wolf in the quarterfinal (R1 bye). He won the United Cup for the United States earlier this year, going 5-0, and he advanced to the third round of the Australian Open. In the second half of 2022, the 25-year-old finally developed some consistency in his game, and ever since, he has been playing at the highest level with a lot of confidence. The top-ranked Japanese lost here to Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2017 and 2022 tournaments, Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the 2019 tournament, and Cameron Norrie in the first round of the previous two ATP Acapulco campaigns.
