Matteo Berrettini has a 3-3 record so far in 2023, but he shouldn’t let the stats deter him too much because he has only faced one opponent who was relatively simple to beat, Thiago Monteiro at the United Cup. In the first United Cup competition, he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz, and he later blew a match point against Andy Murray in the opening round of the Australian Open. The former world #6 is currently outside the top 20 as a result of missing many tournaments in 2022 due to injury and COVID as well as not being able to defend the runner-up points at Wimbledon.

Having said that, the Slovakian’s win-loss record of 2-6 might not accurately represent his play because he has actually performed much better than the statistics might indicate. In the Davis Cup, he forced a tiebreaker against Tim Van Rijthoven, and in the Australian Open, he had a two sets to love lead over Felix Auger Aliassime before losing from a set up to Hugo Dellien.
