Matteo Berrettini has a 3-3 record so far in 2023, but he shouldn’t let the stats deter him too much because he has only faced one opponent who was relatively simple to beat, Thiago Monteiro at the United Cup. In the first United Cup competition, he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz, and he later blew a match point against Andy Murray in the opening round of the Australian Open. The former world #6 is currently outside the top 20 as a result of missing many tournaments in 2022 due to injury and COVID as well as not being able to defend the runner-up points at Wimbledon.

Since retiring from his first-round match of his inaugural ATP Acapulco campaign in 2022, the big-serving Italian’s performance level has not been up to his usual standards. Even though he resumed his season a few months later and won back-to-back championships on grass, his performance was not at all convincing.

With only two victories out of a possible eight, Alex Molcan has had a challenging start to 2023. One of these triumphs occurred in the Australian Open first round, where he narrowly defeated Stan Wawrinka. The other victory came just last week in Rio de Janeiro against a teenager named Joao Fonseca who was making his professional debut. Having said that, the Slovakian’s win-loss record of 2-6 might not accurately represent his play because he has actually performed much better than the statistics might indicate. In the Davis Cup, he forced a tiebreaker against Tim Van Rijthoven, and in the Australian Open, he had a two sets to love lead over Felix Auger Aliassime before losing from a set up to Hugo Dellien.
