In 2023, Christopher Eubanks experienced some peculiar months. Last month, he won both of his matches in the main draw in New Zealand and Australia, but this month, he lost three straight matches in the first round in North America—Dallas (R1), Delray Beach (R1), and Monterrey Challenger (R1). Given that the American has played a lot of tennis in North America, this is unexpected. Additionally, he won all four of his main-draw matches in tour-level competitions last year on home soil at the US Open, Indian Wells Masters, Newport Open, and Washington Open.
Feliciano Lopez only managed to win one of his 16 matches in the entire 2022 season, and he has yet to take part in a competitive match in 2023. The former world No. 12 has dropped out of the top 1000 in the most recent ATP rankings as a result of this subpar performance across all levels. The 41-year-old Spaniard is currently on a four-match losing streak in Acapulco and hasn’t won a match in the competition since defeating Dusan Lajovic in the first round in three sets in 2019.
