Beginning on Monday is the 25th iteration of the Chile Open on the ATP Tour. Even though no players from the Top 10 will compete, we still have some strong opponents who are motivated to win the clay-court competition. Pedro Martinez, the current champion, will have a very difficult time defending his title because many other players in the main draw have performed better than he has lately. The top two seeds in the competition are Lorenzo Musetti and Francisco Cerudnolo, and both are anticipated to contend for the win. The likes of Laslo Djere, Diego Schwartzman, and Sebastian Baez will also be taken into consideration.

With the exception of the Grand Prix years in the 1970s and 1980s, it has been a part of the ATP Tour since 1993. Javier Frana of Argentina won the inaugural competition after defeating Emilio Sanchez in the final. Gustavo Kuerten and Gaston Gaudio are two other champions in addition to Chile’s Fernando Gonzalez, who has won the competition a record four times. In the 2017 Chile Open final, Pedro Martinez defeated Sebastian Baez 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to claim the title.

Seeds

Despite his recent performances being far from impressive, Lorenzo Musetti is the top seed in the competition and will undoubtedly be the overwhelming favourite to win. At the ATP 250 tournament, Francisco Cerundolo, who is seeded second, and third-seeded Sebastian Baez, who finished second last year, will both be among the contenders for the championship. Some of the seeded players include Diego Schwartzman, Albert Ramos Vinolas, Laslo Djere, and Pedro Cachin, and each of them will try to succeed in Santiago. Pedro Martinez, the current champion, is an unseeded player in the competition and faces a difficult title defence. Dominic Thiem is a wildcard in the main draw and is eager to succeed in Santiago.
