Constant Lestienne also hasn’t been in great form recently and looks to start the year on a high. He hasn’t made it to the later stages of any of the major tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Rinderknech in the Swiss Indoors in the second qualifiers stage after beating Bellier in the first qualifier. In the Paris Masters, he lost right in the first round to Ymer, and in the recent Adelaide International 1, the outcome was the same as he bowed out right in the first match to Novak Djokovic. He beat Pedro Cachin in the first-round matchup and in the second round, he beat Gregoire Barrere, and in the last round, he beat Laslo Djere with the score ending 2-6, 7-6, 7-5.
Richard Gasquet has not been in good form recently having lost three of the last five matches he has played. He will look to bounce back in style by picking up a win against his much-depleted opponent and building confidence that he has been lacking. He has lost against Ruud and Giron in the last two tournaments, the Paris Masters and the Adelaide International 1 respectively. He beat Alex Molcan in the round of 64 tie to face Ruud in the round of 32 stage. In the European Open, he lost to Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals after crucial victories against Goffin, Stricker, and Wawrinka on the way. He beat Kiranpal Pannu in the first-round matchup and Joao Sousa in the second round and in the last round, he beat David Goffin with the score ending 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.
