Kokkinakis and Kecmanovic are set to face each other in the quarter-final of the 2023 Adelaide International 2 on Thursday, January 12.
In the second round of the ATP Adelaide 2, Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated Andrey Rublev in three sets, earning one of his biggest victories to date, 6-4 3-6 6-3. In the first round of this campaign, he put in comparatively more effort against fellow countryman Alexei Popyrin, winning 6-0 6-7 7-5. The gifted Australian had the best week of his career in January 2022, winning the biggest title of his career by defeating John Isner and Marin Cilic in the second round of the ATP Adelaide tournament. In 2022, he earned eight of his 23 victories in Adelaide during the first and second legs.
Miomir Kecmanovic played his first three-set match of the year against Jason Kubler in the second round of the ATP Adelaide 2 after three straight-set victories. He had previously defeated Kyle Edmund and Christopher O’Connell (both of Australia), but last week, he was defeated by Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the ATP Adelaide 1. In 2022, former Junior #1 made numerous quarterfinal appearances, particularly in the early going. However, moving on past the quarterfinals was difficult for him. Last year at this point, he dropped five straight games, and it wasn’t until Munich in April that his terrible run came to an end.
