10th-seeded Karen Khachanov has been out of form for quite some time now and looks to get himself back on track as soon as possible and he feels that the Madrid Open will be the ultimate platform for him to prove himself. At the Australian Open, he pulled something out of the top drawer and surprised a lot of tennis fans in the world by making it to the semi-finals where he lost to Tsitsipas after battling in what was a four-set thriller. After a month-long gap, at the Dubai Tennis Championship, he couldn’t go past the first round losing to van de Zandschulp. At the recent Indian Wells, he lost to Davidovich Fokina in the round of 32 stage. And at the Miami Open, he came close to the title thereby making it to the semis losing to Medvedev.
Thiago Monteiro has not been in good form at all for the past couple of months and looks to take that form into the Madrid Open as well. He made it to the quarter-finals of the Concepcion Challenger losing to Dellien after beating the likes of Casanova and Barrios Vera. In the Challenger De Tigre Two, he was the champion after beating De Jong, Collarini, Torres, Lavagno, and Dutra Da Silva. He was also the champion at the Challenger De Tigre One. At the Rio Open, he got knocked out in the round of 16 stage to Norrie and at the Chile Open, he made it to the quarter-finals losing against Munar. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Gojo in the first-round matchup by 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
