Jaume Munar has not been in good form at all in the past few months and looks to build the much-needed confidence in the ongoing Madrid Open. He made it to the round of 16 stage of the Argentina Open losing to Francisco Cerundolo and at the Australian Open, he lost in the first round itself to Svrcina. Even at the ASB Classic and the Maharashtra Open, he bowed out of the competition in the opening round to Djere and Griekspoor respectively. At the Swiss Indoors and the Paris Masters, he failed to make it out of the qualifying stage. At the Girona Challenger, he made it to the quarter-finals losing to Elias, and at the Chile Open, he performed brilliantly to make it to the semis losing to Nicolas Jarry. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Kokkinakis in the first-round matchup by 6-7, 6-7.
Seeded 30th Tallon Griekspoor has been in decent form recently and looks to keep his head high at the Madrid Open as well. He hasn’t made it to the later stages of most of the major tournaments he has played in but he shocked the entire world by winning the Maharashtra Open by beating the likes of Bonzi, Karatsev, Cilic, Cecchinato, and Munar. But at the Australian Open, he got knocked out in the third round itself by Tsitsipas, and at the Paris Masters, he couldn’t make it past the qualifying stage losing to Sonego. At the Rotterdam Open, he made it to the semis losing to Sinner and at the Grand Prix Hassan II he made it to the quarter-finals losing to Carballes Baena.
