Hugo Grenier and Alexander Zverev will take on each other in the round of 32 matchup of the 2023 Madrid Open on April 30.
Hugo Grenier is not a name that we hear very often in the ATP 1000 tournaments and he has performed really well in the Challenger tournaments and paved his way into the ongoing Madrid Open. He made it to the round of 32 stage at the Grand Prix Haasan II losing to Kuzmanov and at the Les Franqueses Del Valles Challenger, he made it to the finals and beat Billy Harris to lift the trophy as well. But at the recently played Barcelona Open, he couldn’t even make it past the qualifiers stage. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Klein in the first qualifiers by 7-6, 3-6, 4-6 and then went on to beat Rincon in the second qualifiers by 3-6, 7-6, 2-6. In the round of 128 tie, he beat Schwartzman by 5-7, 4-6, and then in the next round, he beat Korda by 6-7, 6-7.
Seeded 13th Alexander Zverev hasn’t been in good touch lately after recovering from the injury he picked up at the French Open last year and still is searching for good form. He will be adamant to make a change in fortune and perform well at the Miami Open. He couldn’t make it past the second stage mark in most of his last tournaments: at the Australian Open, he lost to Mmoh, and at the Rotterdam Open, he lost to Griekspoor. At the Dubai Tennis Championships, he made it to the semis but eventually lost to Rublev, and at both the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Indian Wells Masters, he made it to the round of 16 stage losing to Medvedev on both occasions. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Carballes Baena in the first-round matchup by 7-6, 5-7, 0-6.
