Holger Rune and Andrey Rublev will take on each other in the finals of the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters on April 16.
Seeded sixth Holger Rune has not been entirely consistent recently and looks to start the year on a high. He needs to keep his composure and would be adamant about lifting the trophy at the Monte Carlo Masters. He lost to Cressy at the Open Sud De France in the semis finals after beating Barrere and Huesler in the first two matches. He made it to the finals of the Swiss Indoors but lost to Auger-Aliassime but he corrected that mistake by lifting the Paris Masters trophy by beating Djokovic in the final. At the Australian Open, he made it to the fourth round losing to Rublev after beating players like Humbert, Cressy, and Krajinovic on the way. He made it to the semi-finals of the Mexican Open where he lost to de Minaur. In the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters, he beat Thiem in the first round by 2-6, 4-6, and in the second round, he received a walkover against Berrettini. In the quarter-finals, he shocked everyone by beating the tournament favorite Medvedev in straight sets by 3-6, 4-6, and then went on to beat Sinner in the semi-finals by 6-1, 5-7, 5-7.
5th seed Andrey Rublev hasn’t been in good touch lately and has been losing all the recent tournaments he has played in. He will be adamant to make a change in fortune and perform well at the Monte Carlo Masters. He couldn’t make it past the first stage mark in most of his last tournaments, losing to Kokkinakis at the Adelaide International 2, and to Fritz at the Cincinnati Masters in the second round. He made it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open thereby losing to Djokovic after beating the likes of Rune, Evans, Ruusuvuori, and Thiem. His bad form continued as he got knocked out from the Paris Masters and Vienna Open at the round of 16 stage on both occasions. In the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters, he beat Munar in the first round by 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, and in the second round, he beat Khachanov by 7-6, 6-2. In the quarter-finals, he beat Struff by 6-1, 7-6, and then went on to beat Fritz in the semi-finals by 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
