After the French Open, Coco Gauff only competed in the Berlin Open but her performance was exceptional.
US tennis sensation Coco Gauff’s 2022 Wimbledon will commence against Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse. The 11th seed has not had much time on grass since the clay season ended. After the French Open, Gauff only competed in the Berlin Open but her performance was exceptional. She reached the semi-finals where she was beaten by top seed Ons Jabeur. The American reached the final of Roland Garros but was defeated by world no. 1 Iga Swiatek.
Ruse’s Roland Garros was one to forget as she was ousted in the first round by Elise Mertens. She then competed in the Birmingham Classic where she lost to Zhang Shuai in the round of 16. At Eastbourne, the Romanian was ousted in the round of 64 by Lauren Davis. On paper, it should be a simple victory for Gauff.
Gauff and Ruse are scheduled to face each other on Tuesday, June 28 in the first round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There are a number of exciting matches on the second day of the first round as the likes of Swiatek, Badosa, Williams, Gauff, Krejcikova and others will be in action.
