American tennis player Jessica Pegula’s 2022 Wimbledon campaign will begin against Croatia’s Donna Vekic. Pegula, who is ranked eighth in the competition, managed to reach the quarter-final of the French Open last month where she lost to world no. 1 Iga Swiatek. Pegula is perhaps the most prolific American player at the tournament and she will be hoping for a positive performance. Before that, she had competed in the Italian Open where she was ousted in the round of 16 by Aryna Sabalenka.
Since Roland Garros, Donna Vekic has had quite a good season on grass. She competed in the Nottingham Open first where she lost to Harriet Dart in the round of 32. Vekic then managed to reach the quarter-final of the Birmingham Classic but was defeated by Sorana Cirstea. At Eastbourne, she bid adieu in the round of 32 after losing to Petra Kvitova.
Pegula and Vekic are scheduled to face each other on Tuesday, June 28 in the first round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There are a number of exciting matches on the second day of the first round as the likes of Swiatek, Badosa, Williams, Gauff, Krejcikova and others will be in action.
