The highlight of the 18-year-old Gauff's season was, of course, her stunning run to the French Open final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek.
In a round-robin match at the WTA Finals, fourth seed Coco Gauff will face sixth seed Caroline Garcia. Gauff has had an outstanding season, propelling her to a career-high world ranking of No. 4, where she is currently ranked. The highlight of the 18-year-old’s season was, of course, her stunning run to the French Open final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek. In addition, she reached the quarterfinals of her home Major, the US Open. Aside from that, the teen had a string of other strong performances throughout the season.
Garcia, meanwhile, is ranked sixth, two places below her career-high ranking of fourth, following a stellar second half of the season. The Frenchwoman’s best results in the first half of the year were a semifinal in Lyon and a quarterfinal in Sydney. In contrast, the 29-year-old won three titles in the second half, the most notable being her victory in Cincinnati, where she became the first qualifier to win a WTA 1000 event. Garcia’s career-best performance at a Major in singles, reaching the US Open semifinals, was another feather in her cap. She also advanced to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.
