Garcia is seeded seventh in San Diego and she will be hoping to go deep into the tournament, but her first test against home favourite Collins will be tricky.
Despite being on a roll at the US Open earlier this year, French tennis player Caroline Garcia has a lot left to prove as she aims to finish the season on a high. At the 2022 San Diego Open, Garcia will go up against veteran Danielle Collins in the first round. The Frenchwoman had an underwhelming showing at the recently concluded Japan Open where she was ousted in the first round after a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-5 (5-7) loss against Zhang Shuai. Garcia is seeded seventh in San Diego and she will be hoping to go deep into the tournament, but her first test against home favourite Collins will be tricky.
For Collins, the San Diego Open will be the first tournament on the WTA tour after the US Open. Collins was seeded 19th in the Grand Slam and was eliminated in the round of 16 by Aryna Sabalenka. The American defeated Naomi Osaka in the first round of the Grand Slam, a result not many could have predicted at the time. At one of her home WTA events, Collins will be expected to make a mark and ousting the seventh seed right off the bat would be a fantastic start.
Caroline Garcia and Danielle Collins are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA San Diego Open on Tuesday, October 11 at 6 am IST. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
The WTA San Diego Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
