Novak Djokovic will have his first big test of 2023 when he faces former world no. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the semi final of the 2023 Adelaide International 1 on Saturday. The Serbian emerged victorious in the 2022 ATP Finals after a jaw-dropping display that saw him win every single match in the tournament. One of those matches was against Medvedev. The score of that one was 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (2-7). This time, the top seed is also in fine form, defeating a talented Denis Shapovalov in the last eight 6-3, 6-4. Djokovic will be looking to get off to a flying start this season as he hopes to reclaim the no. 1 spot.
Despite having an unconvincing start to the tournament, Daniil Medvedev has into his own over the course. The Russian has won a couple of comfortable matches against Miomir Kecmanovic and Karen Khachanov. Against his compatriot, Medvedev registered six aces and converted four out of seven break points to record a 6-3, 6-3 win. The Russian will be hoping for a change in fortunes after a dismal end to 2022.
