Casper Ruud was in great form last season and ended the last year in fine fashion and will be motivated to be back to his regular good form after having a bad start to the new year. He played at the ATP World Tour Finals recently where he made it to the finals beating the likes of Rublev, Fritz, and Auger-Aliassime on the way. He only lost to Rafa Nadal in the group stage round and then in the finals, he had to settle for second place as Novak Djokovic showed immense caliber to win the match. In the tournaments before that, he made it to the round of 16 stage at the Paris Masters and got knocked out of the Japan Open and Swiss Indoors right in the first round. At the Australian Open and the Mexican Open, he bowed out of the tournament in the second stage itself. In the ongoing Estoril Open, he beat Sousa in the round of 16 matchup by 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Sebastian Baez has been a huge name for the last few years but the results have not done justice to his reputation at well recently. Despite his massive victory at the Cordoba Open, where he beat Coria in the final and on the way outside opponents such as Dellien, Barrios Vera, and Darderis, he has not made it out of the first round in the majority of the tournaments. Like at the Australian Open, where he lost to Kubler, at the Argentina Open to Lajovic, and also at the Maharashtra Open to Martinez. The same was the case at the Paris Masters and the ASB Classic, where he lost to Khachanov and Shelton respectively in the opening round itself. In the ongoing Estoril Open, he beat Albot in the first-round matchup by 5-7, 6-7, and Cachin in the round-of-16 matchup by 4-6, 6-7.
