Carlos Alcaraz and Felix Auger-Aliassime will take on each other in the quarter-finals matchup of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters on March 16.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Indian Wells Masters after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Kokkinakis in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-3 and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Griekspoor by 7-6, 6-3. He received a walkover against Draper midway through the match when he was leading by 6-2, 2-0.
Felix Auger-Aliassime has been in stellar form for the past few months and he will be adamant to perform well in the Indian Wells Masters as well. At the Swiss Indoors, he shocked the entire tennis world by lifting the title after going past players like Rune, Alcaraz Garfia, Bublik, Kecmanovic, and Huesler. At the Australian Open, he made it to the fourth round losing to Lehecka in what was a four-set thriller. At the Paris Masters, he made it to the semi-final stage losing to Rune, and at the European Open, he finally lifted the trophy beating the likes of Korda, Gasquet, Evans, and Guinard. At the Rotterdam Open and the Qatar Open, he made it to the quarter-finals and the semi-finals respectively losing to Medvedev on both occasions. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Martinez in the first-round matchup by 6-7, 4-6 and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Francisco Cerundolo by 5-7, 4-6. He beat Tommy Paul in the last-round matchup by 6-3, 3-6, 6-7.
