Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Barcelona Open after his recent win at the Indian Wells Masters where he beat Medvedev in the finals. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Miami Open, he lost to Sinner in the semi-finals missing out on yet another title. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Barcelona Open, he beat Borges in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-1, and in the round-of-16 matchup, he beat Bautista Agut by 6-3, 7-5. In the quarter-finals, he beat Davidovich Fokina by 7-6, 6-4.
Dan Evans is a veteran of the sport and has been on the court for a decade now but he hasn’t been in the best of touch lately losing all the tournaments right in the first round he has played in the last couple of months. At the Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Monte Carlo Masters, Qatar Open, and the Dubai Tennis Championships, he got knocked out in the first round. At the Australian Open, he made it to the third round losing to Rublev and he also made it to the semi-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II losing to Carballes Baena. In the ongoing Barcelona Open, he beat Arnaldi in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-3, and in the round-of-16 matchup, he beat Khachanov by 6-3, 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he beat Francisco Cerundolo by 6-2, 5-7, 3-6.
