Boric Coric has so far won four games in 2023, but all of those victories came in team events at the United Cup and Davis Cup, including a tenacious straight-set victory over Arthur Rinderknech, 7-6 7-6. The Croatian had to take part in a few Challenger competitions in the first half of the season to get back into shape and strengthen his match conditioning because he was still recovering from an injury at this time last year. He now regularly competes on the main tour, and he even received a first-round bye in Montpellier this week, thanks to a fantastic end to the year.

Last July, the former world No. 12 reached his first quarterfinal on the main tour since March 2021 in Hamburg. A few weeks later, he defeated players like Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas to win the Cincinnati Masters, the biggest victory of his career. These outcomes, along with a few additional strong runs in Tokyo and Vienna, allowed him to re-enter the top 30. His previous two ATP Montpellier campaigns saw him take on underdogs in the first round, but he lost to Michael Berrer in 2016 and Aljaz Bedene in 2017.

Early in 2022, Arthur Rinderknech had trouble on the main tour, but he was able to recover and find his form during the European indoor competitions towards the end of the year. He briefly held the title of French #1 thanks to this comeback. The Frenchman prefers to play on indoor hard courts, and his recent notable success on the main tour and ascent through the rankings were largely attributed to his success on the surface. In the previous three seasons, he has defeated 54 opponents on indoor hard courts, winning three of his four Challenger championships.
