The Spaniard was ousted in the very first round of the Ostrava Open after a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 defeat to Petra Kvitova.
The last month has not been a memorable one for Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa by any stretch of the imagination. Despite being one of the top ranked players in the world, Badosa has struggled for form in quite a number of competitions of late, including the US Open. The Spaniard was ousted in the very first round of the Ostrava Open after a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 defeat to Petra Kvitova. Badosa was also eliminated on the first round of the Pana Open, where she was seeded first, by Qinwen Zheng after suffering a dismal 6-3, 6-2 defeat. Many had predicted the Spaniard to go a long way at the Flushing Meadows but the second round was the limit. At San Diego, Badosa will be looking for a convincing start against home favourite Louisa Chirico.
Chirico had to go through two rounds of qualifying to make it through to the main draw of the San Diego Open and she has been quite impressive. The American defeated eighth-seeded qualifier Yulia Putinseva 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. She faced compatriot Alison Riske in the first round of the main draw and recorded an impressive comeback victory. Chrico returned five out of 1 break points to seal a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win.
Paula Badosa and Louisa Chirico are scheduled to face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 WTA San Diego Open on Thursday, October 13. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
The WTA San Diego Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
