The ATP Stockholm Open is one of the oldest tournaments on the calendar this season. Since its inception in 1969, the tournament has seen six Swedish champions. The last homegrown player to win at Stockholm was Thomas Johansson in 2004. The last winner of the competition is US tennis player Tommy Paul, for who it was the first ATP title. Paul was up against Denis Shapovalov in the final last season and after two hours of play, the American came out on top 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. “I played some of my best tennis to beat Denis,” Paul had said at the time. “It’s the most fun I’ve had playing a tennis tournament. It means everything to win my first title. I’ve worked so hard to achieve this and I’d like to break into the Top 30 at some point.”

The defending champion will be seeded eighth in the 2022 edition of the tournament but he will have to overcome a momentous test to retain his crown. The top seed is wildcard entry and world no. six Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tenth ranked player Cameron Norrie is seeded second. On paper, these two are the favourites for the title. However, with the likes of Frances Tiafoe, Denis Shapovalov, Grigor Dimitrov and Holger Rune in the mix, things will get quite interesting.
