Andrea Vavassori is not a name that we hear very often in the ATP 1000 tournaments but he has been doing well in the last few months due to which he has earned his way at the Madrid Open. He made it to the quarter-finals of the Oeiras Challenger III, where he lost to Ofner after beating Tseng and Frederico Ferreira Silva in the first two matches. Again at the Sanremo Challenger and at the Grand Prix Hassan II, he made it to the quarter-finals losing to Varillas and Danny Evans respectively. At the Vina Del Mar Challenger, he made it to the semis losing to Hugo Gaston. In the ongoing Madrid Open, he beat Virtanen in the first qualifier by 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 and went on to beat Felipe Alves in the second qualifier by 6-3, 7-6. In the round of 128 matchup, he faced Murray beating him by 2-6, 6-7.
Seeded 26th Daniil Medvedev has been in the form of his life recently having won three consecutive tournaments. He has made it to the later stages of the majority of the tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Sebastian Korda at the Australian Open in the third round after beating Millman and Giron in the first two matches. At the Monte-Carlo Masters, he lost to Rune in the quarter-finals, and at the Indian Wells Masters, he made it to the finals losing to Alcaraz. At the Rotterdam Open, he lifted the title beating the likes of Sinner, Dimitrov, Davidovich Fokina, Van de Zandschulp, and Auger-Aliassime. After that, he also lifted the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships by beating Murray and Rublev in the finals respectively.
