Novak Djokovic has already made his name in the history books of tennis and he will always be there with the elites. But he continues to surprise tennis fans across the world despite him catching up with his age. He looked rock solid last year and has begun the new year with the same kind of dedication and has already sailed onto the finals of the first major tournament of 2023. He beat Constant Lestienne in the first-round matchup and then faced Quentin Halys winning the match in straight sets. He beat Denis Shapovalov in the quarter-finals and then ousted Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals to make it to yet another final.

His opponent Sebastian Korda has surprised a lot of spectators throughout the tournament having beaten the likes of Andy Murray whom he faced in the round of 32 and Roberto Bautista Agut whom he faced in the round of 16. He has been playing against tough opponents throughout the entire tournament and no one can say that he has been lucky. He beat Jannik Sinner in the quarters and then played against Yoshihito Nishioka. It was the injury of Nishioka that forced him to retire midway through the second set with Korda receiving a walkover into the finals where he will face the World No.1 Novak Djokovic.
