Summer McIntosh is one of the most talented swimmers currently in the world. At just the age of 16, she is the holder of two world records – one in women’s 400m freestyle and another in 400m Individual medley. Considering her age factor, she will undoubtedly be unstoppable and establish many more records in the coming future. Summer McIntosh is the daughter of another former well-known swimmer, Jill Horstead. Jill represented Canada during her days and was a Commonwealth Games medalist as well.

McIntosh, the 14-year-old Canadian swimmer, stunned the swimming world with her record-breaking swim ahead of Canada’s Olympic Trials in 2021. Her time of 4:05.13 in the 400m freestyle race, which shattered the previous Canadian Age Group Record, earned her a place in her first Olympic Games. Based on McIntosh’s outstanding performance from a few weeks earlier, Swimming Canada had the option to name her to the team. McIntosh added a new event to her schedule at the Olympic Trials when she defeated her training partner and fellow Olympic champion in the 100-meter freestyle, Penny Oleksiak, to win the 200-meter freestyle in 1:56.19. She won the 800m freestyle the next day in another personal best of 8:29.49.

Summer McIntosh maintained her impressive performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, establishing new Canadian national records and career best times. With a timing of 4:02.42, she finished fourth in the 400m freestyle final behind big names like Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky. She raced for Canada in the 4x200m freestyle relay team with another personal best time of 1:55.77, helping them place fourth in the final with a new Canadian record timing of 7:43.77. Despite finishing 11th in the preliminary rounds of the 800m freestyle event with a time of 8:25.04 and failing to advance to the final, McIntosh has already established a reputation for herself as a promising young athlete.
