The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2022 witnessed a lot of record-breaking performances from top swimmers across the world. The United States of America topped the medal table with a total of 36 gold medals, including 17 gold, 13 silver, and 6 bronze medals. While the host nation Australia (26) and Italy (16) ended their campaign on a high with a second and third place finish. Let’s take a look at the top performers from the championship who led their country to a successive outing.

Ryan Murphy

At the recently finished FINA World Swimming (25m) Championships 2022 in Melbourne, Australia, Ryan Murphy won five gold and one silver medals. He took home gold in the men’s 50, 100, and 200-meter backstroke events, as well as the men’s 4 X 100 meter and mixed 4 X 50-meter medley relays. With this, he completed his triple and became the first person, male or female, to win all three backstroke events at a single world swimming championship. He is a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the former world-record holder in the men’s 100-meter backstroke.

Kate Douglass

Alongside Ryan Murphy, Kate Douglass finished with five golds as the United States topped the medals table with a total of 36 medals, out of which 17 were gold at the World Swimming Championships (25m). Kate clinched the gold medals in 200 m breaststroke, 200 m individual medley, 4×50 m freestyle relay, 4×100 m medley relay, and 4×50 m medley relay events at the short course world championships. By winning the gold in the 200 breaststroke, she shattered her own NCAA, American, and U.S. Open record. A Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist in 200m medley, Katherine Cadwallader Douglass is an eight-time NCAA champion which includes five in individual and three in relay events.

Emma McKeon

The last top performer in this list is none other than home favorite Emma McKeon. Emma concluded her campaign at the short course world championships by winning a total of seven medals which included four gold and three silver medals. She claimed the gold medals in 100 m freestyle, 50 m freestyle, 4 X 100 meter freestyle relay, and 4 X 50m medley relay. She played a crucial role in leading the Australian team to two gold medals in the relay events which were also new world records. Emma also broke the course records in both the individual events and brought home the gold medals. Emma is one of the most decorated Australian athlete of all time and has won 17 medals, including four gold medals, at the World Aquatics Championships; and a record 20 medals, including 14 gold, at the Commonwealth Games.
